In the Beginning…

Happy Thanksgiving!

My journey as an artist began in childhood. I was consumed by the vintage cartoons of the 1950’s and 60’s. In my youth, I created numerous animated films with my father, and, at the age of 13, had an opportunity to present one of my films on a local NBC television show. My love for film and cartoons continued throughout my young life and led me to working in the film industry while attending The School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC). After graduating from SAIC, my path turned more toward a career in graphic design. Today, I find myself full circle rediscovering my love of vintage illustration, storybooks, and classic cartoons which first ignited my desire to seek a career in art.

Since the knowledge is available, why try to struggle along without it? The difficulties of not knowing are always much greater than the effort of learning.

My goal in the blogs I post is to exchange information related to building a solid foundation in drawing and painting, along with helpful tips and techniques that will mutually benefit everyone involved. I look forward to hearing from you!

My daughter has to be credited with my re-entry into the world of painting. After several years of artistic dormancy my daughter asked me to paint her a picture of an angel. Little did I know that her humble request would lead me to rediscover my love for traditional painting and drawing.
