ARTIST BIO

Peter Birchwood is a painter and illustrator working in the Midwest. He is known for his nostalgic themes and joyful, vibrant imagery. His distinctive personal style draws from vintage storybooks and classic cartoons from the 1950s and ‘60s. His colorful paintings celebrate his childhood memories and time spent in the great outdoors of Hayward, Wisconsin. Peter affectionately refers to his art as “Storybook Retro”.

Peter received his BFA from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago before working as a graphic designer for several years. His painting media are Cel-Vinyl, gouache, and oil paint on cradled panels. He primarily uses traditional painting methods, however, he will employ mixed media, digital accents, or collage in conjunction with his classical practices.

Peter lives with his beautiful wife and 5 wonderful children. He considers art to be the search for truth, beauty and goodness. In his free time you can find Peter fishing somewhere in Hayward creating new memories.
